About Us

Every human on earth has a unique root which sprouts from a tribe. Every tribe on earth is unique by virtue of its language and culture. This uniqueness is what identifies people anywhere in the world. Sadly, a lot of languages and consequently cultures have been lost over the past years due to the reluctance of the custodians to pass them down to the next generation as is seen today with us the Igbos, little wonder UNESCO's prediction about the extinction of the language in few years to come.

SUBA ASUSU GI INITIATIVE is an NGO that is in the fore front of the battle against the extinction of our identity as a people. We have undertaken different ways to sensitize our people especially parents, on the need to teach their children their mother tongue which is the right of a child to know. We believe that one must strive to be the change that he/she seeks at all times. No one can change another but someone can cause another to change. SUBA ASUSU GI INITIATIVE is no doubt an agent of change, the still voice that speaks to our hearts and minds, the truth that stares us in the face and like a baby's cry, jolts us back into reality. We must never forget ; The carefree spirit we had as Igbo children. The respect we learnt for our elders. The synergy we had as children irrespective of whose father was poor or rich. The words of our elders that blessed us with wisdom. The trips to the village to mingle and understand who we are. The punishments and sanctions that taught us Igbo values.

The reality is that we have forgotten so soon who we are. We have become overwhelmed and lost and the things that would have strengthened us, are now the things pulling us back. Imagine what our offsprings can do with all the wisdom embedded in our dear language and that embedded in foreign languages. They will certainly be unstoppable! But in our naivety, we are limiting them and holding our tribe back from taking it's rightful place in the world. Taa bụ gboo! We can still get there. Help SUBA ASUSU GI INITIATIVE to help our children. No amount is too small or too big to help save our language from going into extinction through our different projects. The least you can do is SPREAD THE WORD!

NGO AIMS

1. To revive the dying speaking culture of the Igbo language among the indigenous people through seminars, workshops, talks, social media outreach, language camps and the preservation of the Igbo language and culture through literacy programs that target the younger generation so as to give them a firm knowledge of their root, a sense of belonging, a pride in their heritage and an opportunity to contribute to the economic, strategic and diplomatic development of their country.

2. To promote and export our native language, the Igbo language, to the global community.

Ọgbakọ ụmụaka (School Igbo club)

We are currently establishing Igbo clubs in schools within the south East zone which will be an avenue to teach our language and culture to our young ones as cultural activities like drama, crafts, cultural dance etc. will be done in the club to teach them their heritage. Subsequently, the NGO will organize annual interschool club competitions to encourage and reward excellence. Your donation is highly appreciated.

Ọmụmụ Asụsụ Igbo radio na TV (Series)

In our effort to reach a wider audience with our beautiful message, we liase with radio and TV stations from time to time to have educational Igbo language programs. This has been very tasking going by our lack of sponsorship at the moment. Our intention is to expand the scope to include 'OGE EGWUREGWU ỤMỤAKA' which will be an interactive radio and TV Igbo Language learning series for children. We look forward to partnering with you!

Ejije na Egwu (Film and Music)

The entertainment industry is one that provides a great audience for information dissemination. We have developed songs and movie scripts which capture the core message of the NGO in a way that is both entertaining and real while telling of the travails of the Igbo child and adult who are unable to communicate in their native language. Ọmụmụ Asụsụ Igbo (physical and virtual classes)

Just as the name implies, this is our physical and virtual Igbo learning class which was established as a way of helping today's busy parents teach their children the Igbo language. It is also open to adults and non-igbos alike.

Asụsụ Igbo na soshal midia (social media outreach)

The NGO has established a heavy presence in social media where we speak to the conscience of Igbo indigenes through write-ups, videos and audio materials daily. We also circulate Igbo language learning materials from time to time on this space.

Asọmụmpi Asụsụ Igbo ụlọakwụkwọ (Igbo Language interschool competition)

To change the popular slogan "ebe ka eji Igbo eje", the initiative intends to showcase brilliance and intelligence in Igbo language through this project by holding annual competitions that reward excellence in Igbo Language.

Olu ndị Igbo (Street buzz)

It's a project that allows the initiative to interact with people one on one while changing their misconception about the Igbo language. It is a street evangelism that is also aimed at showcasing different aspects of the Igbo culture on the street.

Volunteer

The NGO's task is one that can be achieved faster by working together, therefore, we call on volunteers who are willing to help resuscitate our dying language and culture to join our group.
